Citrullus lanatus, an Old Ozark heirloom, is known for its crisp and firm flesh, characterized by its sugary sweetness. Popularized in the 1930s by a Mr. Hamby of Cedar County, Missouri, this cultivar has a thin, striped green rind and deep red flesh, which can reach up to 2kg in size, does well in cooler climates.
