100 seeds, Australian Native
A lovely tough ornamental Australian small tree, drought hardy and ornamental, perfect for an Australian backyard or Street planting.
Flower colour is usually cream, but sometimes, rarely, can be pink or purple.
Found naturally in swamp or estuaries in coastal QLD and NSW, but will happily thrive anywhere with 600mm+ rainfall. The Essential oil of this plant has a wonderful ‘cooling’ affect, good for inflammation around injury. (I have some inflammation problems with an injury. I tried some Niaouli Essential oil diluted in olive oil (Melaleuca quinquenervia) and had terrific results)
These seeds were collected from a tree down the rd at my neighbours while I was in Builyan, QLD, briefly. In his garden, he had 3 Paperbarks, 2 had yellow flowers and were not that weepy, the third which looked just the same in every other way, except it defiantly had more weepy foliage plus the flowers were gorgeous purple/ cerise – so it is this ornamental one, that I collected the seeds from. Unfortunatly I did not get a photo of the purple/ cerise flowers, only the tree after flowering and its neighbour trees in flower with different colour, so I have obtained photos online to show the flower colour. When I was trying to ascertain its ID (as the owner did not know) I noted the description for both Melaleuca viridiflora and Melaleuca quinquenervia, is very very similar, except it was said, only the viridiflora has flowers that may be cream, yellow, green or red flowers. So, because the one down the road has purply cerise flowers, the books tell me this is Melaleuca viridiflora. But, cross pollination, and special ‘sports’ have been known, so either specie is possible in my opinion. But, I saw some tube stock of Melaleuca quinquenervia at the Bundaberg Nursery, and I straight away thought mine must be the other one, viridiflora, as those tubes there had foliage that looked stiff and more bottleybrushy, whereas as my tubes have very soft foliage, with longer leaves/slightly weepy already. Which is why I am selling them as Melaleuca viridiflora. I am 100% sure it is viridiflora.
It would be great to see some photos of the flower colour produced from these seeds – so I can add them onto the page listings. Please, feel free to take as many photos of as you want, and contact me via email; [email protected]
If you need any advice in germinating, Melaleuca said I did a little video;

For most seeds (unless otherwise stated): Sow Spring – Lightly cover and keep moist until germination – best to do in the hot before a rain event. Grow seedling over the spring/summer in shade house with ideal conditions, then plant out autumn with occasional watering for the first 2 years.
Seeds are usually collected from tree/plant shown in photo, this one was growing at Builyan, QLD. Happy to answer any questions you may have.
